Hello! Welcome to my online teaching portfolio. I am glad that you stopped by. I am an art teacher and artist, so here you will see my students’ artwork as well as my own. Because the student-teacher ratio of the classes I have taught has been small, I always display everyone’s artwork. I want students to see that they can start a digital art gallery, just like the teacher can.
I love creating art and I have an immense enthusiasm for teaching, so I combined these threads in my education. I earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art and a master’s degree in art education. As part of my graduate internship, I taught three art workshops to students from second to fifth grade. For my practicum, a seven-week art class, I taught students from pre-K to sixth grade.
I was born in New Jersey, and my creativity flourished in New York where I grew up. There I learned to give unused materials a second life—I turned worn-out clothes into dolls, newspapers into picture frames, and leftover produce and spices into paint. Guatemalan folklore and Greek and Hindu mythology inspire many of my creations.
Even as a child, I liked sharing my love for the arts by teaching what I had learned: first to my sisters, next to a few kids in my neighborhood, and later, during my high school years, to even younger children.
Traditional and non-traditional teaching settings have taught me about effective class management, tailoring activities to meet a range of learning styles, and teaching content using a clear and engaging method.
To continue to grow as an educator, I attend workshops and visit libraries, educational fairs and festivals, museums, and historic sites.
I hope you find the art you see here interesting and inspiring. Please see the contact form if you’d like to share a comment. I’d love to hear from you!
